Provide protection to the nationally important Bacton Gas Terminal which supplies up to one third of the UK gas supply
Activities:
– The project will involve an innovative ‘Sandscaping’ approach, based on a Dutch example, by which large volumes of sediment (up to 1.8 Million cubic metres) will be placed on the beaches in front of the gas terminal and villages. The enlarged beaches will prevent erosion of the soft cliffs at the terminal, cover vulnerable gas pipelines and protect the area’s sea defences from damage and undermining.
