A sandscaping protect to provide protection to Bacton Gas Terminal, which supplies up to one third of the UK gas supply.
The scheme involved an innovative ‘sandscaping’ approach, based on a Dutch example, which saw large volumes of sediment (up to 1.8m cubic metres) placed on the beaches in front of the gas terminal and villages. The enlarged beaches will prevent erosion of the soft cliffs at the terminal, cover vulnerable gas pipelines and protect the area’s sea defences from damage and undermining. The sandscaping was completed in the summer of 2019.
