The East of England Energy Zone is unrivalled in the UK for its unique mix of wind power, gas and nuclear energy production. The supply chain has decades of experience and expertise, recognised with Enterprise Zone status. The coast around Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft is at the centre of the world’s largest market for offshore wind. Capital investment in energy worth £50bn is planned for the region by 2020, with the world’s largest windfarm in development off the coast and the proposed development of Sizewell C nuclear power station creating 25,000 jobs.

Our Sector Group

An All Energy Industry Council has been formed with a purpose to provide strong and clear leadership for the industry to drive forward the aspiration to be recognised as the UK’s All Energy Region.

The Council will ensure that all partners play a part in delivering the ambitions of the cluster and the Economic Strategy for Norfolk and Suffolk. The Council will drive forward a set of strategic objectives:

Profile and Promotion: Branding and marketing the area and cluster to national and global audiences. Proactively promoting the offer to attract global investment and boost exports across the energy sector.

Lobbying and Regulation: Strengthening links with Government and other organisations as identified by the council to attract support and investment and improve regulations.

Supply chain development: Strengthening the cluster, helping businesses work with each other, including tier one corporates, and maximising export and investment opportunities.

Innovation support: Helping businesses improve their performance and enabling them to enter new markets, develop new products, enhance processes and improve productivity.

Skills development: Overseeing the skills sector plan, connecting employers with providers and responding to industry demands in developing the skilled workforce of tomorrow.

Infrastructure: Attracting investment to enhance and build the infrastructure required to support the growth of the industry and improve connectivity and business productivity.

Norfolk & Suffolk are leading the way in delivering sustainable and low carbon energy solutions to underpin economic growth across the UK. The Southern North Sea currently plays host to over 150 offshore gas assets, together with 986 offshore wind turbines generating 3.75GW of renewable power directly off the region’s coast, with an additional 1,000+ turbines generating some 14GW of offshore wind power to be installed over the next decade. The sector is driving down costs through innovation and collaboration, developing new technologies across our energy system, maximising offshore production and generation.

The Energy sector within Norfolk and Suffolk has a current workforce of 7,800 and 400 enterprises.
