In 2018 the Suffolk Growth Programme Board set up a group of 12 Public Sector partner organisations, across Local Authorities, Police, health (CCG & NHS) and FE / HE. The SGPB Procurement Leads Group have four main work streams: mapping supplier spend for 2017 and 2018; delivering hugely successful ‘Fit to Bid’ training sessions and further training in 2019/20; learning from both one another and the private sector to fully embed and ensure good social value is in all public sector tenders; and finally, engaging with public sector to support supply chain days and better understand local impact.

Annual mapping of public sector contracts to understand the volume and value of local spend. Circular of £2bn spent p.a. in 2017 and 2018 with 50% spent in a local postcode.
Development and delivery of SME training, “Fit to Bid” – which helps local businesses understand the basics of public sector procurement and provide a full directory of public sector portals.
Launched an online diagnostic tool in partnership with Suffolk Chamber of Commerce to enable business to assess their capability and capacity to tender for public sector contracts and how to improve.
Working with the private sector to understand how they are successfully delivering exemplar Social Value models.
