A new facility aimed at inspiring the next generation of engineers was opened at Suffolk New College.
The engineering suite was made possible by a £140,000 grant from New Anglia LEP’s Skills Deal Programme, which is jointly funded by local authorities in Suffolk and the Education and Skills Funding Agency as part of the Greater Ipswich City Deal.
Principal of Suffolk New College, Viv Gillespie, said “We have invested in this scheme to help drive effective partnerships and increase our engineering numbers to support local businesses.
“We also want to continue to support progress to higher qualifications (including apprenticeships) and support local businesses in terms of upskilling staff.”
Doug Field, Chair of New Anglia LEP, said: “We’re working closely with all business sectors to provide the skills and training industry tells us it needs – both through our Skills Deals programme and skills capital investments funded by our Growth Deal with Government.
“Driving inclusion and skills is a key theme of the new Economic Strategy for Norfolk and Suffolk. Facilities like this one are vital to provide our young people with the right opportunities and industry with the workforce they require to thrive.”
