An estimated 350 jobs could be created at an Enterprise Zone site in Ipswich following the acquisition of eight acres of commercial property land by Trebor Developments.

The scheme at Eastern Gateway Enterprise Park will be marketed as ‘Access @ Eastern Gateway, Ipswich’ and complement the existing units already developed on site for Amazon and La Doria.

Construction will start later this year, subject to detailed planning consent, and the site off Sproughton Road will deliver five industrial and logistics units ranging from 10,000 sq ft up to 55,000 sq ft that will be built speculatively. The units will be ready for tenants from around April 2023.

Eastern Gateway is part of the Space to Innovate Enterprise Zone which covers sites across Norfolk and Suffolk and was established by New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership.

Chris Starkie, Chief Executive of the LEP, said: “We’re delighted to see development progressing at Eastern Gateway. As one of our Enterprise Zone sites, it has been identified as a key site for commercial development and job creation. Its proximity to the A14, and onwards to Freeport East and to the Midlands, means it is sure to be a desirable location.”

Greg Dalton, Development Manager for Trebor, commented: “Ipswich is a key industrial and logistics hub in the east of England which has been a target for Trebor in our push for more development sites in this region as part of our A14 strategy. We’re delighted to have worked closely with Ipswich Borough Council on this latest site acquisition and look forward to investing in much needed new industrial product for this area”.

Cllr David Ellesmere, Leader of Ipswich Borough Council, said: “This is the latest step in the success story of Eastern Gateway and shows how right Ipswich Borough Council was to take on this site. The additional units will attract new investment to Ipswich and bring even more jobs on top of the 500 already created on this industrial park.”
