A crane sales, repair and hire firm can expand its Norfolk customer base, thanks to a grant from New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership.

Crowland Cranes, which has bases in Norwich, Peterborough and Bury St Edmunds, is investing in new premises in Norwich to help grow its business across Norfolk. The company sells and hires cranes, crane spares and offers repairs and servicing throughout the UK.

Supported by a grant from New Anglia LEP’s Growing Business Fund, Crowland Cranes is expanding onto a new larger site, including a new service/repair workshop and an additional four new cranes for hire from the new Norwich site.

The expansion will create 20 new jobs, including apprenticeship roles for both crane operators and engineers.

As well as helping it service local customers, it will reduce the environmental impact of transporting cranes from Peterborough for clients in Norfolk, in addition improving response times to sites within the area. The company will also be able to now offer local repair and servicing to a range of HGV & plant equipment, which previously was all completed at its Peterborough operation.

Crowland Cranes was established in 1998 and has served the UK industry with both new and used crane sales and service around the world. Over the past 15 years it has grown considerably, with the addition of crane hire operating throughout the East Anglia region and more recently the supply of lifting tackle supplies & manufacture through its sister business, TMC Lifting & Engineering Supplies.

Peter Issitt at Crowland Cranes said: “We are pleased to have been awarded this Growing Business Fund grant. We have a growing Norfolk customer base and with the new larger depot, with improved service/repair facilities, will allow us to confidently increase our crane hire fleet and offer new repair services to our clients, as well as creating new jobs locally.”

Chris Starkie, Chief Executive of New Anglia LEP, said: “This is an excellent example of the support our Growing Business Fund can deliver, helping an established local company grow its offer, expand its premises and create new jobs.

“In the current climate it is great to see Crowland Cranes committing to growing its workforce and investing in its future.”
