An Operations & Maintenance Campus being developed in Great Yarmouth has celebrated success at the national LGC Awards.
The £21.4m project commissioned by Norfolk County Council and a collaboration with Great Yarmouth Borough Council and New Anglia Local Enterprise Partnership emerged victorious at the Local Government Chronicle Awards ceremony at Grosvenor House in London on Thursday 8 June, winning the Economic Support category.
New Anglia LEP secured £6m from the Government’s Getting Building Fund for the scheme, which will use land at the southern tip of the South Denes peninsula and make it more accessible and attractive for further investment from companies engaged with offshore wind farm development and maintenance over the coming 25 years.
The judges’ citation read: “Playing a leading role in the national ambition for a net zero transition and a centrepiece of the levelling up agenda for the area. An exceptional and clear transformational investment delivered through an established partnership between the district, county council and LEP, this proposal demonstrated a compelling strategic investment positioned towards the offshore industry supporting national and local growth.”
Construction is expected to take around 12 months to complete and will see 190m of river quay refurbished and upgraded, along with the creation of new vessel pontoons and delivery of a revised road layout and associated infrastructure to optimise the land available for future development.
As a key investment opportunity under Great Yarmouth’s Town Deal and the borough council’s strategy for economic growth, its delivery is expected to provide a welcome boost to the local economy, supporting the delivery of new homes and employment growth in the area.
Also in the running in the Economic Support category was the Broadland Food Innovation Centre near Norwich, which was developed by Broadland District Council in partnership with New Anglia LEP.
