Why do we need Sizewell C?
Nuclear Energy is Low Carbon.
The UK is committed to meeting Net Zero by 2050.
Nuclear power reduces our reliance on imports.
Nuclear energy in the mix lowers costs for consumers.
We need more capacity to meet rising demand.
Nuclear has a very small land footprint.

Sizewell C Project Update
In July our development consent order was approved
We have a detailed buildable design.
We have completed 8 years of public consultation for the planning
process.
We have applied for a Nuclear Site Licence and relevant
Environmental Consents which have recently been consulted on.
Early works on SZC (e.g. road schemes, marsh harrier habitat)
have started.
We have a clear and deliverable strategy for supplying water for
Sizewell C during both construction and operation.
The project is in active discussions with the Government about
investing in the project.

Powering
Decarbonisation
As part of an Energy Hub, SZC can make an even greater
contribution to the UK’s net zero ambition, helping to
decarbonise industry, transport and heating
SZC has the potential to produce:
Green hydrogen Using heat to make electrolysis more efficient
Direct Air Capture, making SZC carbon negative
Clean fuels for shipping and aviation
Clean heat to industrial process and for district heating
Cooling data centres
Working with freeports to provide clean heat and power

Powering
Biodiversity
SZC will deliver a net gain in local biodiversity of 19%.
An independent Environmental Trust will be set up to
support rewilding and promote further biodiversity.
Aldhurst Farm is a 67 hectares site of new habitat,
benefitting a variety of wildlife as well as rare plants.
Sizewell’s nuclear plants have operated in harmony with
the Suffolk countryside since 1960’s.

Powering Jobs and
Skills
2,600 workers will likely come from the local area during peak and we are
aiming to enable 1,500 apprenticeships
£125m a year during construction and £40m a year during operation will enter
the regional economy
900 highly skilled staff will operate Sizewell C
Sizewell C would be a catalyst for positive long-term change - delivering new
skills and opportunities and provide long term sustainable careers
Our DoO has:
A fund to enhance facilities and resources for colleges and training providers for
skills required by the project.
Bursary scheme to help young people
Fund pre-employment training and outreach initiatives for economically
disadvantaged and hard-to-reach groups
Thank you
