Downham Market Academy became the first secondary school in West Norfolk to be matched with
an Enterprise Adviser (EA); Nicky Paine from Balfour Beatty.
Prior to their first official meeting, Nicky had already supported Downham Market with an event for
pupil premium students in year 9/10, and during this the relationship really took off. Nicky will be
supporting the school with their careers programmes offering an employer’s perspective, providing
Labour Market Information regarding Balfour Beatty and the sectors they employ staff within,
supporting the school to embed careers within the curriculum and increase the schools encounters
with employers.
Nicky has hit the ground running and already has plans in place supporting students with developing
soft skills as well as a mentoring programme for year 9 and 10 students.
In return, Balfour Beatty are developing a positive reputation by this support for the local community
as well as supporting the future workforce, broadening their networks and engaging with young
people at an early age with an interest in working in the sector and more specifically their
organisation.
