The Growing Business Fund Panel in July 2018

The LEP’s Growing Business Fund Panel makes decisions on behalf of the Investment Appraisal Committee on allocations of funding through the LEP’s Growing Business Fund.

The committee comprises a total of ten voting members. All voting members are from the private sector including the independent Chair. One private sector member will be a member of the LEP Board and will also sit on the Investment Appraisal Committee. This individual will act as the LEP board champion for the GBF programme. Each Panel Member will be expected to sign a Declaration, in confirmation of their appointment to the Panel and acceptance of the Panel’s Terms of Reference.

Mike is a chartered accountant whose career in practice was with KPMG and Grant Thornton as an audit and advisory partner. Since retiring from practice in 2008,  he has held a variety of non-executive and trustee roles in the private and the public sector, notable in health and education and skills. He is chair of the Board of Governors at East Coast College, a trustee of Sheringham Little Theatre and represents NALEP on the Eastern Agri-Tech Programme Delivery Board.

Jeanette heads up Birketts’ employment law team in Norfolk and Suffolk as well as its other regional offices and sits on the firm’s Management Board. She is ranked in the elite ‘Leading Lawyers’ list of lawyers nationwide [Legal 500 UK 2015]. She is a recent past President of the Norfolk and Norwich Law Society and former Chair of the Norwich Business Women’s Network. She currently sits on one of the Norfolk Chamber Area Councils.

Jackie is responsible the financial strategy of the group, which consist of the two four star hotels, the Angel Hotel, Bury St Edmunds, and Salthouse Harbour Hotel, Ipswich and the truly unique Southwold Pier. They currently employ 240 people.

Martin Ince

Martin Ince

Director, Martin Ince Communications Ltd

Martin Ince lives in Suffolk and runs a small communications and training company working in research and higher education. He was formerly deputy editor of the Times Higher Education Supplement and has been president of the Association of British Science Writers. He works around the world as chair of the Global Academic Advisory Board for the QS World University Rankings, which he helped found in 2004. A prolific popular science writer, he is astronomy expert on BBC Radio Suffolk and recently produced a public report on oceanography for Kiel University in Germany.

Dr Sundram has more than 25 years experience in health sector including as a Director of Finance in the NHS, where she developed and managed the performance of health service contracts for specialist, secondary and primary health services. She has also advised on UK health policy through Department of Health resource allocation working groups on R&D, specialist service definition and primary care. Dr Sundram has a PhD in Health Service Management, Accounting and Economics and a MBA from Cranfield University, and is a member of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.

With almost 30 years' experience in the legal sector, Daryl took the helm at Burnett Barker Solicitors in 2016. Echoing the sentiments of entrepreneur Victor Kiam who “liked the company so much he bought it”, he led a management buyout of the Bury St Edmunds firm, having risen through the ranks after first joining as a school-leaver back in 1990.

Fostering relations with community and business organisations, delivering on the firm’s commitment to make a positive impact in the community and environment, Daryl is an advocate of the important role of local business and mentors business leaders on many aspects of everyday business.
