Sam was first elected to the Council in 2007 and joined Brecklands Cabinet in 2015 as Deputy Leader with responsibility for the Councils Transformation Programme, Inward Investment and Growth Delivery throughout the District. In May 2019 Sam became Leader of the Council and is ultimately responsible for setting the strategic direction of the authority. Sam currently sits on the Local Government Information Unit (LGiU) Board and is a Local Government Peer in which he is asked to support other Councils throughout the Country. Outside Local Government, Sam worked for nine years with the Ministry of Defence and still holds a volunteer appointment.
