The Government has announced that bids to the Housing Infrastructure Fund (HIF) by local authorities in Norfolk and Suffolk have been successful in getting through to the next stage.
The £5 billion HIF forms part of a comprehensive programme to enable the Government to fulfil its commitment to building 300,000 homes a year nationally by the mid-2020s.
One of the bids from the New Anglia LEP region which has reached the next stage of the process is from Norfolk County Council and Broadland District Council for almost 8,000 new homes in the Broadland Growth Triangle area and forms part of the largest urban extension in the country with 13,500 homes.
Cllr Andrew Proctor, Leader of Broadland District Council and Board Member of New Anglia LEP is delighted that the HIF bid around the Broadland Growth Triangle has successfully moved on to the next round: “We are pleased that the Minister for Housing, Communities and Local Government is backing the council’s vision for growth. We appreciate at this stage there is no guarantee of funding but we look forward to working closely with his department in developing a more detailed business case for the Broadland Growth Triangle. Our focus will be on enabling infrastructure across three key sites and to convert large unserviced development land into smaller, serviced parcels that are more suited to the local housebuilder market, including SME builders.”
The projects will now develop more detailed business cases in order to be considered for co-development.
